Atoms & Bits Montréal
(Une version française de cette entrée est sur mon blogue)
During our time in Berlin we met a bunch of people, including, among others, a lot of very dynamic coworking people. It's the same gang who, for the last few weeks, have been organizing a whole series of events under the Atoms & Bits banner. Really a whole bunch of cool events regrouping a lot of people from many different places.
From the beginning they contacted me to see if we could put together a Montréal extension with some events over here. I contacted a bunch of people through email as well as two large events to try and regroup locals but with vacations and everyone (including me) being swamped with work, responses were rare and slow to come so I dropped the idea.
Last week Sebastian and Peter came back again with the idea. In the mean time I had gotten a positive answer from Podcamp Montréal, an important and extremely well organized un-conference, so I looked around and realized that a few events were already around and might be interested in regrouping. It's now a done deal. Since yesterday (so even before the announcement) with a lecture from W3qc we have strated the Montréal Edition of Atoms & Bits. The complete list:
- Web et droit d'auteur du W3qc. September 14th. (@ Station C)
- September monthly meeting of Girl Geek Dinners Montréal. September 16th. (@ Station C)
- Podcamp Montréal September 19th and 20th. (@ Centre de design UQAM)
- NetSquared Montréal Tuesday September 22nd. (@ Station C)
- Open Doors day at Station C (coworking is one of the themes of the festival) on the 23rd.
- A Wordpress Developer Meetup on the 24th. (@ Station C)
- A Breakout day to be organised and determined.
If you are an event organizer with something fitting in with the 5 themes of A&B, don't hesitate to contact me to join us.
It's very important to note that all those events are entirely organized by each group, the festival only aims to regroup locally to show our support, openess, interest and points in common with the geek community in Berlin.
The Montréal site will be at atomsandbits.ca in a few hours.
